Summary
A Saudi Arabia investor visa usually means one of three routes: registering a company with MISA and taking an investor or general manager iqama, applying for Premium Residency, or using an investor visit visa for short trips. Most founders choose the MISA route. This guide explains each option, MISA fees including the famous “MISA 60k”, Premium Residency costs, steps, documents and FAQs.
What Is an Investor Visa in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia does not issue one single “investor visa”. Instead, investors get the right to live and work in the Kingdom through one of these routes:
- Company route: set up a company through the Ministry of Investment (MISA), then take residency (iqama) as the owner or general manager
- Premium Residency: a self sponsored residency, sometimes called the Saudi green card, that does not need a company or a local sponsor
- Investor visit visa: a short term visa for meetings, site visits and exploring opportunities before you commit
Most business owners use the company route, because it gives you a licensed business, a bank account and an iqama together. MISA replaced SAGIA, so older guides that talk about a “SAGIA investor visa” describe the same idea under the old name.

Iqama Visa for a GM in Saudi Arabia
The most common question we hear is how an owner gets an iqama visa as the general manager (GM) of their own Saudi company. The process works like this:
- Register your company with MISA and get your Commercial Registration.
- Appoint yourself as general manager in the articles of association.
- Open the company’s government files on Qiwa, GOSI and Muqeem.
- Apply for a work visa for the GM position through the company.
- Enter Saudi Arabia, complete the medical test and biometrics.
- Receive your iqama as the company’s general manager.
As GM, your company sponsors you, so the iqama stays valid while the company is active and you remain in the role. A government relations officer (GRO) usually handles these steps.
MISA Investment Registration and the “MISA 60k”
Every foreign investor needs approval from MISA before forming a Saudi company. For years, MISA charged a small issuance fee plus an annual subscription of around SAR 60,000, which is why so many investors search for “MISA 60k”.
Under the updated investment framework, MISA has moved towards an investment registration system. Fees are set by MISA when it approves your registration, and some categories have reported fee waivers or reductions. Do not assume either the old SAR 60,000 figure or a full waiver applies to you. Confirm the current amount on the MISA portal for your activity.

Saudi Premium Residency for Investors

Sponsoring Your Family
Investors with an iqama can usually sponsor a spouse and children, and sometimes parents, once they meet salary and housing rules. Dependants pay a monthly fee on the company iqama route, while Premium Residency holders sponsor family more freely. Family members get dependant iqamas linked to yours.
Renewing Your Investor Iqama
Iqamas are renewed online through Absher or Muqeem once the company’s government fees, insurance and levies are paid. Keep these up to date to avoid fines:
- Iqama and work permit expiry dates
- Medical insurance for you and your family
- Company Commercial Registration annual confirmation
- GOSI and Qiwa records

- Zakat: 2.5% on the Saudi and GCC share of the Zakat base
- VAT: 15% standard rate
- Personal income tax: none on salaries

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Budgeting with the old SAR 60,000 MISA fee without checking the current amount
- Applying for Premium Residency when a company iqama would be cheaper
- Appointing a GM before the company files are fully open
- Missing iqama renewals, which leads to fines
- Ignoring Saudization rules once you start hiring
Expert Tip From Our Consultants
If you plan to run a business, the company and GM iqama route is usually the most cost effective, because the same company gives you a licence, bank account and residency. Premium Residency makes sense when you want independence from a company, own property or plan to hold investments rather than operate. Many of our clients start with the company route and move to Premium Residency once their investments grow.
